The Strond Art Centre is situated in a small village by the sea about 6 miles from Kirkwall,
the capital of Orkney. The centre is a large
war-time Romney recently converted for use as an art gallery.
As well as the gallery there is an art shop, kitchen, bathroom, meeting space
and a large storage area at
the back which has full planning permission for conversion to a dwelling. Alternatively the storage
space
could be used as a framery or studio and a new dwelling put on the car park (subject to planning permission).
The centre has been used for the benefit of the local community, running classes in art, crafts, meditation,
yoga and Tai Chi, and having concerts and exhibitions by local artists and the quilting group and heritage group.
It has been treated
as a hobby
by the current owner, who now wishes to retire. It could easily be turned into a paying business -
a showroom or a workshop of some kind, for example.
